there are things i like to do when asked
i like to help analyze people's dreams.and i like to cut their hair, or help decide how they should get it cut.
the problem is, these are both dangerous things to do. because few people realize how transparent and close to the surface they are when discussing either.
when i first got here, i dreamt about my grandmother every night. the last couple of weeks, i haven't been able to remember my dreams. i think maybe it's because my subconscious has moved into my hair follicles. and last night i thought about bleaching my head platinum.

so
you've just run to the corner for toilet paper (because you still haven't dropped that americanism and succumbed to calling it 'loo roll'), and you're kind of kicking around on the internet waiting for the laundry to finish and your boyfriend to get home so you can go to the pub for dinner, and 'dance magic' from labyrinth pops onto your itunes.or rather. that's what i'm doing. not you.

"He talked like a child about his dream to make a mammoth"
"When I was young, I didn't have any foolish dreams, I just cared about money. Then I developed a kind of disease: I wanted to do something others considered impossible. I told Goto we would realize the dream together." When Kobayashi told his staff about the new venture, they thought he had gone mad. He tried to reassure them. "I told them, 'There is so much scary news out there. It's good to have at least one good news story.'"

great

now i'm depressed.
"According to my editor, London is the centre of the art universe right now. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think all the fuss is creating an unnaturally optimistic environment for artists? As David Hickey pointed out in his keynote at the Frieze Art Fair, there has never been a better time to be a young artist. It seems buckets of money await anyone under 30 with the right connections."

what do we do when we fail?

a) pick yourself up, dust yourself off, start all over again.
b) jim-jam yourself up, cover yourself up, drink until you're asleep.
c) sharpen your skill for pointing out exactly what's wrong with other people. start with whomever is trying to help you see the bright side of things.
d) don't hate, hibernate. [wait, isn't that the same as option b? no. and shut up.]
e) shoplift.
f) consult wikipedia. note how really democratic it is about your situation. remember that wikipedia is written by people who spend their lives flexing their knowledge on wikipedia.
g) oreos. neil diamond. a snazzy wig.
h) lather, rinse, repeat.

you say you're a ghost in our house and i realize i do think i see through you

turn-ons:
* food and drink* episodes of 'this american life' listened to whilst in countries other than america as an attempt to ward off homesickness
* dead things preserved in jars
turn-offs:
* when the bottoms of jeans get wet from dragging through the rain, and the damp heavy denim remains a nagging uncomfortable presence on leg skin all day
* the fact that i smoke like a non-smoker
